I once went to a costume party in my regular "nice" clothes
( slacks and sport coat ). But Then I added a small sign around my neck that said : " HEY ! I 'm a Professional Circus CLOWN -- So if
You Guys Dress Like ME on Halloween -- I'm going to wear
A Silly Outfit --to Look Like YOU ! "
(Actually, I had just forgotten to get a costume -- but it seemed
be accepted okay. Forgetful AND Lazy! ) -- Sol Morrison

I enjoyed this article. For some reason here in the UK we're still stuck on Halloween being a holiday all about ghosties and ghoulies.

I think you guys in the States have it about right. Expand the possibilites so people don't feel the need to turn up with an old bed sheet draped over their heads with two holes cut out for eyes. cheers!

<p>[...] Avish Parashar wrote a fantastic post today, in John Kinde's blog, on “Halloween Humor â?? Get Dressed To Thrill!”Here’s ONLY a quick extractHe went all out and donned an elaborate pirate costume complete with hat, jewelry, and makeup. I won second place and he won nothing.
Thanks for the intro to Avish and his brand of humor. Although I'm way to slow for improv, I have a serious enjoyment of those who can. This is a very timely article and I actually read it twice, admiring the wit and wisdom normally reserved for Humor Power..

I once went to a Halloween Party in Hollywood, where everyone seemed to have fun , except 5-6 "Beautiful Young People" with expensive , designer clothes and expensive hair styles. These "would-be Actors and Models " sat together by the pool, drinking and being "veddy Sophisticated" -- making snide remarks about all the "Corny Jerks " in costume.
SO: If ya' go to a Halloween Party (Any Social Event with a Definite , strong THEME ), either " JOIN The Party" -- or "Support & Appreciate" Those Who DO" -- Or Stay Home !

I really enjoyed this article. I find Avish' humor delightful and real. I especially enjoyed the part about the "mask" we wear most of the time...that's one to elaborate on in another article, isn't it? I know what he means by making a costume "too clever". Just like speech writing, people like to "get it". I've had a few duds on Halloween trying to be too clever. My best costume was coming as an early Bob Dylan. I have some plaid platform shoes I saved from 1974. Thanks for a great article!

Wow. This is a great entry. It had me laughing silly in my seat. And the thing about women and costume parties is true( although it seems to be more prominent in teenage Halloween parties)! I suppose people are less uptight because they have an excuse to go all out. Some guys do it, too. I love the part about jokes not supposed to be explain. The simpler the better. And I think that applies to many things in life.
