We’re In The Top Three

The New Yorker magazine has a weekly Cartoon Caption Contest.  After submitting captions for over 100 weeks one of my lines was finally selected as a Top Three Caption!  A nice surprise.

Here’s where you could help.  The New Yorker magazine picks the top three captions…and then visitors to their web site (people like you) vote on their favorite to determine the winner. The winning caption is then published in the magazine.  Fifteen seconds of fame for someone.  My caption is the one by John Kinde from Las Vegas (the second caption).

Congratulations!!! I just came from voting for your caption. My entry had the same theme as yours: the triathlon. But yours was way funnier. Mine explained too much. I think I even used the word “triathlon.” Hope yours wins!

Congrats, John. I voted for your caption also. Good luck!

    John,

I saw the contest when I leafed through my New Yorker yesterday. (I’m one of those old-fashioned types that still reads magazines.) And at the time I thought your caption was by far the funniest — and that was without knowing it was yours.

    Congrats. I hope you win.

    Chris

I attended a cartoonists’ get together this past weekend near Boston (snuck in). There was a presentation by The New Yorker cartoonist who signs his work “Dd,” Drew Dernavich. (Super nice man!) He mentioned the contest. Turns out there are 8,000-10,000 entries per week. Should you win, you’ll forever after be known as the winner of The New Yorker caption contest. If you don’t win, you’ll ever after be known as the finalist of The New Yorker caption contest. Your decades-long career in humor comes second. So either way you win. Sorta.
